Our Plays, Playwriting
Our upcoming production Right Now has already created quite an impression on critics with its playwright, the French Canadian Catherine-Anne Toupin, compared in style to both Florian Zeller and Harold Pinter.
Before the production arrives here at the Bush on 23 March, we thought we’d introduce you to Catherine-Anne…
She’s a celebrity in Quebec
Catherine-Anne is a star of the French Canadian small screen, and is well-known for appearing weekly in hugely popular television series Boomerang, Les Hauts et les Bas de Sophie Paquin and Unité 9.
She doesn’t see herself as a writer
In a recent interview with La Presse she said she sees herself more as “an actress who writes.” However she has written three full length and many other short plays, which have all been produced!
She’s confused by British reactions to the play
“The English find my piece ‘So French!'” she laughs, whereas she thinks it contains a very British dark humour.
