The EWG is an opportunity for us to develop relationships with new playwrights we encounter through our unsolicited submissions process and further afield – all of whom are at early stages in their careers. It aims to support writers over a sustained period of time and help encourage work on a new full length play.
Meet this year’s EWG cohort:
Josh Azouz is currently under commission to Theatre Royal Stratford East and Three Streets Productions. Previous writing credits include The Mikvah Project (Yard Theatre); The Bike (Royal Court in Pimlico Playground). Theatre directing credits include: Come In! Sit Down! (Tricycle Theatre); The Man Who Almost Killed Himself (Edinburgh, BBC iplayer & ODEONS Nationwide).
Lily is a writer and performer, she trained at RADA. She also attended the Royal Court Young Writers & NYU Screenwriting programmes and École Philippe Gaulier in Paris. Lily’s writing credits include new BBC Radio 4 series ‘Talking to Strangers’ (co-written with Sally Phillips, Oct 2015). For theatre her credits include Pheasant Plucker, Edinburgh & RADAR 2015, Bush Theatre, Mock Tudor, Theatre 503 & Pleasance Edinburgh, Cafe Red, Trafalgar Studios, People of the Town, RADA, Avocado, Kings Head Theatre & Playwrights Horizons NY, Stephen & The Sexy Partridge Old Red Lion & Trafalgar Studios & A Stab in The Dark Latitude.
Sevan’s work has been seen in NYC/London at the Bush Theatre, Theatre503, Rich Mix, the Old Red Lion, the Public Theatre, the Flea Theatre, New York Theatre Workshop, The Space, NOOR Theatre, Access Theatre, Birmingham Theatre Exchange. Nabihah is a published poet and former political columnist for British-Bangladeshi newspapers. Her theatre work includes devising new work for Tara Arts, marketing The Vagina Monologues at the Rose Theatre, working as an assistant in the Writers’ and Education Department at Soho Theatre and more recently performing with Outlandish Theatre.
Gemma Rogers is a performer, singer and poet. Gemma has written a number of short plays. Most recently, a one woman ‘inner-city musical’ which she performed at Theatre503 in Jan 15, which was then taken to Wilderness. In 2013 she formed a band. They have played in and around London and are regulars on the festival circuit. She tells the stories, the ‘many’ Mil men play the music and together they are Gemma & The Mil Men. She has just graduated from Central School of Speech and Drama with a Masters in Applied Theatre.
Sophie is a well-known actress and talented writer for screen and stage. Her debut play, Sophie Wu Is Minging, and Looks Like She’s Dead, premiered at the Edinburgh Festival in 2014 and transferred to the Soho Theatre to rave reviews. She is currently developing original TV projects with House of Tomorrow and Kudos and is under commission from Channel 4.
