RADAR Performance: Beats

Presented by the Arches in association with the Bush Theatre as part of RADAR 2012

In 1994 the Criminal Justice Act effectively outlawed raves, banning public gatherings around amplified music characterised by “the emission of a succession of repetitive beats”.

Beats is a new monologue piece written and performed by Kieran Hurley with Arches resident DJ Johnny Whoop; a coming-of-age story exploring rebellion, apathy, and the irresistible power of gathered youth. With techno. Lots of techno.

Beats is theatre at its most vital and electrifying’, Metro, four stars.

An original, urgent piece of theatre’, The Telegraph, four stars.

Hurley delivers the performance with an eye-popping intensity’, Timeout, four stars.
