The Student Guide to Writing: Playwriting Book Launch and Play Reading

Join us for the book launch of The Student Guide to Writing: Playwriting. The guide includes playwriting lesson plans, providing permanent access to leading industry training on playwriting for students, teachers and writers.

It will be a unique showcase of some of the most talented student and emerging writers in the UK and the launch of the book from the competition.

The event will also include an In Conversation discussion about the competition and why it was run. Plus there will be advice for students and aspiring writers from Stewart Pringle, Associate Dramaturg at the Bush Theatre, George Spender, Senior Editor at Oberon Books, and Jennifer Tuckett, Course Leader of the MA Dramatic Writing at Drama Centre London at Central Saint Martins and Director of Writers at Work Productions.

The Student Guide to Writing: Playwriting competition first ran in 2016. It’s organised by the Bush Theatre, the MA Dramatic Writing at Drama Centre London at Central Saint Martins, Writers at Work Productions and Oberon Books. The competition aims to train and discover some of the most talented student and emerging writers in the UK.

The book includes guides by Rob Drummer Artistic Director of Boundless Theatre Company and former Dramaturg at the Bush Theatre, Ola Animashawun, founder of the Royal Court Theatre’s young writers programme, John Yorke, founder of the BBC Writers Academy and others.

There will also be a staged reading of “The Student Guide to Being a Student in the UK”, the play written by the 5 winners of the competition who are:

Titilola Ige: joint University winner
Monique Geraghty: joint University winner
Mufaro Makubika: joint emerging/general winner
Miriam Battye: joint emerging/general winner

Tickets are free but limited so book early to avoid disappointment.
